  1. The times, they are a changin'

    Published

Six days and I enter a whole new world. The summer went by really fast. Yesterday my friend Cortney left for the University of Guelph; today Vivike leaves for OCAD. I'm sure they'll have lots of fun down in Southern Ontario. :) And I will miss them terribly. :bye:

I'm pretty much ready for university--sort of. It'll be an interesting few weeks, just getting into the new routine and figuring everything out. Once I've…

  2. Bear necessities redux

    Published

I never expected to write a sequel to my previous bear-themed post. Then again, I never expected this.

Today I bought a new bike (since my other one was stolen two months ago  ). It's a good bike that will get me back and forth to school and work so I don't have to drive all the time! Anyway. That isn't the story. The story begins when I biked home from the…

  3. Bear necessities

    Published

Working full-time has finally taken its toll on me. On Friday, my co-worker Danielle and I agreed that we've finally snapped. It started with bears....

We get the occasional bear wandering around the campus on which the gallery's located. Somehow we got on the subject of bears, and Danielle suggested that we trap a bear using stale doughnuts from Robin's Donuts and then train him to work at the front desk. We'd dress him in…

  4. Love, beauty, and Stardust

    Published

I've been quite excited for Stardust ever since I learned about it, and tonight I went to see it. If I had one word to describe it, I'd simply say beautiful.

I'm no critic. I like a lot of movies, movies that many people might dismiss as a waste of their time for one reason or another. Oh well. However, even most of my favourite movies don't fall into the category of "beautiful". Hot

  5. Mmm, DVD entertainment

    Published

Hot Fuzz came out on DVD Tuesday. I didn't see it in theatres, but I enjoyed Shaun of the Dead a lot, so I bought it. Like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz parodies a genre of movies--in this case, cop-themed action movies. It is nonstop hilarious in the way that it's virtually impossible to discuss specific parts of the movie--it's all funny. Yet the humour isn't cheap. There is a compelling plot buried…

  6. Danger: Low ceiling

    Published

Windows Vista does not like the adapter that I bought with my dance mat, so I ordered a new adapter online (thanks Laura!) that's better. It arrived last week and I got my dance mat working, which means I can now play StepMania! Plus I bought an RF modulator to hook up my computer to the big TV upstairs (because the TV is too old and has no S-video port!). This morning I went…

  7. Why scientists are illogical

    Published

Many people, especially religious pundits who want to knock "cold, logical science" down a few notches, claim that science is as faith-based as religion. I would tend to agree. Those who disagree argue that science relies on painstaking experimental method and proof to back up its theories--which is true, but only to a certain extent. When it comes to the things that science just can't determine (or at least hasn't determined yet), we depend utterly…

  8. Why I have no common sense

    Published

This story is an example of why I lack any common sense whatsoever.

Yesterday at work a guy came in and said he was delivering phone books. Okay, no problem, bring them in. Oh wait--they are heavy. Okay, no problem, I'll help you. Oh wait--there's a lot of them. Okay, I'll open up receiving.

Now at this point I'll admit I thought something was unusual. But I didn't question anything and proceeded to help these…

  9. Finally

    Published

    The long night has ended.

Two good events have occurred in the past week to counterbalance this annoying cough that's plagued me. Firstly, my new computer arrived on the 21st! Secondly, I am now officially done with high school.

With university approaching, I wanted a new computer. My former one, a Toshiba Satellite A70, was ... performance-challenged, to say it nicely. It was a nice computer in its own right, but clunky from the start…

  10. To all my friends south of the border

    Published

Please, when you come to Canada, change your money. It isn't that hard, and it will save me some headaches.

Thunder Bay is close to the border, so we get frequent American visitors to the art gallery. For some reason, they believe it's fine to just hand us American money. Canada's just the 51st state anyway, right? I know that when I go to the States, I don't flash my Canadian cash all around…
